Connectedness

Hello! It’s been a long time since I wrote stuff here. Almost two years already!

With everything that’s happening in the world, I feel like I needed to explore this space again. I felt like I needed to write again….not because I am great at it, I make a lot of typos and SO MANY grammatical errors all the time, but because I felt the need to take this up again because there are a lot of things to think about and to process, and sometimes it can get lonely to process it all on my own. Maybe writing about it here will feel less lonely sometimes.

My sister recently recommended to me a book on meditation, and today’s meditation topic was about how we let go of our independence, and realize that we are not alone in the universe.

This prompt made me think about a conversation I had with my therapist before about what gave us value as humans.

I’d like to think that our value – not just as humans, but as beings who are part of this universe, lies in our shared connection with others – humans, nature, animals, a higher being, God!

Not in the sense that we wait for the validation of others for us to be worthy, but in the fact that we are all beings who are just being. Does that even make sense? Let me explore this thought a bit more.

These thoughts actually came to me because of the sun. I was feeling emotional (when am I not, am I right?) and when I looked up, I realized how much the sun’s rising, setting, shining, hiding affected us all. I personally do not know the sun (lol), but the fact that it exists has made my being what/who it is today. And that is just one being in this world! Think about all the things that we have connections and attachments to! We are all connected, and that should mean, our actions all affect each other. And what a power that is. Especially since we as humans can actually physically feel what it’s like to be affected by someone or something. You can even connect/affect someone without even knowing it.

And that I think, is why kindness and being a good person makes sense. I think that giving value to our shared connection – and recognizing that our being exists because there are other beings , and recognizing that our innate value is shared amazing things like the sun and the sea, as well as humans born this very second and those who have gone before us, it just makes sense to honor that connection by interacting kindly and mindfully!
